Pickleball at Cedarlane RV Resort: Rules and How to Play
We’re excited to announce the addition of a professional pickleball court at Cedarlane RV Resort! Pickleball has quickly become a favorite pastime among our guests, and we’re thrilled to provide a top-notch facility for this exciting sport. If you’re new to pickleball or need a refresher on the rules, we’ve got you covered.
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a fun and engaging paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played on a court similar to a badminton court with a net slightly lower than a tennis net. The game can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels, making it perfect for family fun or friendly competition.
Basic Rules of Pickleball
1. The Court:
The court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long.
The net is 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches high in the middle.
2. The Equipment:
Players use a paddle and a perforated plastic ball, similar to a wiffle ball.
Proper footwear is recommended to ensure safety and performance on the court.
3. The Serve:
The serve must be made underhand with the paddle contacting the ball below the waist.
The serve must be made diagonally crosscourt and land within the confines of the opposite diagonal court.
Only one serve attempt is allowed, except in the event of a let (the ball touches the net but lands in the correct service court).
4. Scoring:
Only the serving team can score points.
The game is played to 11 points, and a team must win by 2 points.
Points are scored when the opposing team commits a fault (e.g., hitting the ball out of bounds, not clearing the net, or stepping into the non-volley zone and volleying the ball).
5. The Double Bounce Rule:
The ball must bounce once on each side of the net before players can volley the ball (hit it in the air without letting it bounce).
This rule ensures that each team gets to play the ball off the bounce at least once, promoting longer rallies.
6. The Non-Volley Zone (Kitchen):
The area within 7 feet of the net on both sides is known as the non-volley zone, or the "kitchen."
Players cannot volley the ball while standing within this zone. However, they can enter the kitchen to play a ball that has bounced.
7. Faults:
A fault occurs when a player violates a rule, such as hitting the ball out of bounds, not clearing the net, or stepping into the kitchen while volleying.
